Portrait did not paint a pretty picture

Abridged version of the homebuilding process with Portrait Homes:

We signed the contract in October 2005 with a hopeful closing date of March 2006. Union County was hesitant about releasing building permits because they felt as though they did not have the water/sewer capacity for growth in that area (90 townhome units).

We received information only after we pursued our contacts at Portrait. We had a March date, and April date and then finally a "no later than June 30th" date. All of those fell through and we ended up having to ask for our apartment not to be leased back out from underneath us - all the while paying month-to-month rent at a cinsiderably higher rate.

The final straw came when the July closing date was promised, but without a specific date - just a heads up that it would be soon and we'd probably have 7-10 days to close. With a 60-day notice and also a mortgage rate lock-in ending the first week of August, we started to get nervous. The management of Portrait was unwilling to make concessions to help us, so we decided (after much debate with them - Jason was a total champion!) that financially it just didn't make sense to wait any longer. We signed out cancellation paperwork on Thursday, July 13th, 2006. It was a relief. The new projected closing date is August 21st.

God is so good as He has provided another amazing option that is a solid investment and exactly what we were looking for: a single-family home with a townhouse lifestyle. We won't have yard maintenance, etc., but also won't have to share walls with anyone.
