Being in an empty house for the past several days is evidence to me that we have too much stuff in our lives. Currently, the hottest “toy” item in this house is the box for our new air mattress. In fact, G gets mad at M for climbing on/playing with it. It’s the coolest thing around. And, I thought I was being smart anticipating this scenario of delayed furniture by packing a bag of toys. Well, they are crap compared to this box, the vacuum extension hose, and a few plastic spoons. The only things that he’s requested from the truck that he’s missing are his tool box, golf clubs and cooking stuff (kids pots and pans, etc.). So, those items and a few books are about all he needs and the rest we may offer to Goodwill. Seriously, we have a lot of stuff.
We have talked about it a lot recently and really don’t want the “stuff” suffocating us and holding us down. I think J’s comment was something like, “I hope that about half of our stuff that’s on the truck shows up damaged so we’ll just have to get rid of it.” That’s an extreme comment, but you get the gist. But, it’s also telling that it would take damaged items to force us to get rid of them. Why don’t we just purge on our own? Stuff is a trap. You think you need it and that it’ll enhance your life, but it actually holds you back (except for my KitchenAid Stand Mixer – it really does enhance my life in amazing ways! =) ).
